Steven Benton

Steven Benton is a highly accomplished individual with a strong background in computer science and engineering. He holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Texas A&M Corpus Christi, a Master of Science degree in Engineering from Texas A&M Kingsville, and has pursued advanced studies in Mathematics at Texas A&M University. With a combined teaching experience of 50 years, including 14 years in public schools and 36 years at the University of Texas Brownsville and Texas Southmost College.

Beyond academia, Steven is an avid cyclist who actively participates in bicycle races and triathlons. His dedication to the sport reflects his disciplined mindset and passion for pushing his limits. Alongside his athletic pursuits, Steven finds joy in his personal life. He is happily married to Bee Benton, and together they share their home with three adorable puppies – Tinkerbell, Coco, and Jasmine. Steven’s expertise, love for cycling, and commitment to his family are the cornerstones of his diverse and fulfilling life.

I am an avid cyclist, when I was teaching classes at UTB I would ride my bicycle, for 20 years, from San Benito to Brownsville Texas. The trip was 50 miles round trip. I would always wear bright clothes to be scene and a helmet. I wore my helmet because everything you are and everything you ever be is in your head, so be safe.

While I was teaching at UTB, I worked on a research grant project for NASA. The project involved developing recovery systems in space. I developed all of the computer programs for the project.

I also wrote an grant and headed the grant team , for Department of Energy, that developed a low cost green electrical energy system.
